Stephen Hume is a decorated Air Force veteran, conservative small business owner, and family man running for Indian River County Commission in District 3.
Stephen grew up in Ohio and joined the Air Force in 2008. He served honorably in the “Elite Guard”, providing security services for our nation’s top military leaders. Stephen was medically discharged in 2012 and immediately faced the dysfunction of the Obama-era Veterans Affairs administration. He learned first-hand what happens when government gets too big and loses sight of its mission.
In 2016, Stephen and his wife Tori moved to Indian River County to be close to family. Shortly thereafter, tragedy struck the Hume family with the sudden death of Tori’s father. Stephen turned to the Veterans Council of Indian River County for help, and quickly found a new mission: supporting fellow veterans.
Stephen Hume now leads the Veterans Council and has been a driving force to make Indian River County more veteran-friendly. As Stephen became more involved in the community, he noticed a familiar pattern with local government: our leaders seem comfortable and complacent, and have lost sight of their mission.
Growth and development seem haphazard, traffic issues persist with no solution in sight, and politicians seem more content with lip service than leadership. Worst of all, despite record high property values, Indian River County residents continue to see tax increases.
A lifelong Republican, Stephen is running to change this trend and restore conservative leadership to the County Commission. You can count on Stephen Hume to develop a strategic plan to give the county direction and purpose, cut taxes and regulations to ease the pain of inflation, leverage county assets to bring high-paying careers to Indian River County, and protect our community’s conservative, family values.
After his service in the Air Force, Stephen attended University of Akron, where he earned a degree in criminal justice, and Florida State University, where he earned a Master’s of Information Technology Management and Security. Stephen founded Hume Technology in 2020, a consulting practice that provides cyber security solutions to local businesses.
Stephen and his wife Tori live in Vero Beach. Together they have two children, with a third expected in May of 2024.
